These gaskets are specified for hardness, recovery and resistance to the chemicals and heat they live in, and a part that measures identically in the wrong compound either crushes flat in a few hours or stays too stiff to isolate anything. Both outcomes feed vibration into the clips and blade roots, which is the expensive wear you were trying to avoid.
Should I replace the propellers at the same time?
Not automatically, but inspect them properly while they are in your hands. Look at the blade roots for fretting, wear or ovaling where they pivot, at the area around the root for cracking, and at how each blade sits when folded compared with its opposite number. A propeller that has been working in a hardened, unyielding clip has taken punishment; one that inspects clean goes back on a fresh gasket and is fine.
How do I know I have not pinched one while fitting it?
Look at each gasket after it is seated, from more than one angle, and check it sits flush the whole way around. A pinched gasket usually shows itself as a small lip trapped at the edge, a piece standing proud on one side, or a gasket that looks thinner on one edge than the other. Then work the propeller through a full fold and unfold: binding, a new tight spot, or an assembly that does not feel like the other seven is worth taking apart again.
How do I tell whether the clip hardware is the problem rather than the gasket?
Fit a new gasket at that position and see what survives. Play that is still there with fresh elastomer in place is coming from the hardware, not the cushion. Look for a fastener that will not hold its torque, cracking or distortion at the fastener seat, a clip that no longer closes evenly, and bright wear where two metal parts have been moving against each other. Any of those means the clip needs replacing along with the gasket.
