I fitted a new cover and now the aircraft brakes for obstacles that are not there. What happened?
Look at what the sensors can see. A cover that is sitting proud, fitted rotated, or lifted at one edge because a harness is trapped underneath can intrude into a vision sensor's field of view, and the aircraft responds to that exactly as it would to a real object. Take it back off, dress the harness flat in its channel, confirm the cover sits flush all around under light hand pressure, and check each nearby sensor window is clean and unobstructed before flying again.
The screws stripped in the plastic when I tightened them. Do I need a new cover?
Probably not a cover, but check which side stripped. If the threads let go in the molded bosses on the airframe panel, the cover is fine and the panel is the failed part. If the cover's own mounting points are cracked or elongated, replace the cover. Either way, do not fix it with a longer or larger screw. A longer screw can enter the cable channel and reach the harness, and an oversized one splits the boss the first time it is torqued.
