Why does my tank foam up when I fill through the funnel?

Usually aeration rather than the product. A stream dropped straight down the middle of the cone entrains air the whole way and whips it into a load that already carries surfactants. Run the stream down the wall of the cone instead and slow the pour rate, and most of the foam goes away. If it still foams badly, that is the formulation, and the answer is a defoamer or a different fill order.

Wettable powder bridges and clumps in the funnel. What am I doing wrong?

Dry product is going into a dry funnel with nothing moving. Pre-slurry the powder in a bucket of water first, or get water flowing through the funnel before the product starts going in and keep it flowing the whole time. Clumps that make it into the tank end up in the strainer and the filter, so the time saved dumping it dry gets spent twice later.

I sprayed a hormone herbicide. Can I clean the funnel well enough to use it on a sensitive crop?

Assume you cannot. Once the interior surface has been etched by chemistry it holds product in the plastic rather than on it, and rinsing removes what you can see rather than what is soaked in. Follow the cleanout procedure on the product label for the tank and the plumbing, and keep a separate, permanently marked funnel for that chemistry class. It is the cheapest insurance in the operation.

The funnel will not sit stably on my tank opening. Is it the wrong part?

Check the aircraft before you blame the funnel. Try the same funnel on another airframe: if it sits fine there, look at your fill opening for a deformed lip, a strainer basket that is not seated fully down, or a cap seat that has been distorted by overtightening. If it rocks on every aircraft, the rim has warped and the funnel is the problem.

Can I just leave the funnel sitting in the tank opening between loads?

Do not. An open tank opening with a funnel parked in it is a direct path for dust, chaff, insects, and rain into a system that feeds a pump and precision nozzles, and the funnel itself gets knocked off, stood on, or driven over during the turnaround. Rinse it, take it off, and put the tank cap back on between loads.
