One side sprays and the other does nothing. How do I find out why?

Command that side on with clean water in the tank and watch the head. If the disc spins and nothing comes off it, liquid is not arriving, so check the valve, the hose, and the supply. If liquid runs out unatomized, the nozzle motor is not turning. If neither happens, the section is getting no command or no power. Then feel the valve body for a click as it is commanded. A click with no flow is mechanical, and no click is electrical.

The head spins but the droplets look far too coarse. What causes that?

Usually the head is not reaching or holding its intended speed, or the disc is no longer clean and true. Check for hardened product in the passages and on the throwing edge, look for chips or erosion where the liquid leaves, and turn the head by hand feeling for drag or wobble. Confirm the rate and droplet setting commanded by the aircraft as well, then verify what you actually have with water sensitive cards rather than judging the mist by eye.

It keeps dripping after I shut off at the end of a pass. Is that the valve?

Almost certainly, and it is worth fixing promptly rather than living with. A solenoid that no longer seals lets product through when the system says the section is off, so you are treating headlands, turns, and the ground around obstacles you flew past. The usual causes are debris sitting on the seat and a diaphragm or seal that has hardened in service. Some residual drain from the hose after shutdown is normal, but a continuing drip is not.

How do I confirm both sides really are matched after fitting the set?

Do it on the ground with clean water, in two steps. First run each side separately into a marked container for the same time at the same commanded rate and compare volumes, which catches a flow difference. Then fly a pass over water sensitive cards and compare the deposits from each side, which catches a droplet size difference the catch test cannot see. Record both results, because that pair of numbers is the reference you will want the next time output is in question.
